Anxiety.  In our current mental health climate, it’s been catastrophized and labeled an epidemic. We have become anxious about anxiety itself. But this emotion evolved to protect us.  By examining anxiety through an evolutionary lens, we can better manage the challenge of living as social animals in a complex and changing world.  Employing humor and admiration to illuminate our brain and body’s natural response to threat helps us befriend the animal residing beneath our human skin.

Dr. Foose holds UCSF’s Academy of Medical Educators Excellence in Teaching Award. A frequent guest on NPR, she speaks to schools, professional organizations and corporate gatherings throughout the Bay Area and educates her fellow physicians about fear. Her favorite audience, however, is the Bay-Area’s science-savvy public. Engaging her listeners with a fascinating and positive approach to this emotion, Dr. Foose aims to demystify anxiety so we can better manage its impact on sleep, motivation, stress management and avoidance in our children and ourselves.

Her preferred format is a 60 to 75 minute talk followed by 15-30 minutes of questions, discussion with audience. Non-profit organizations receive an adjusted fee.
